Eight weeks, six projects, three tournaments, two days a week in the office, one ultimately satisfying internship experience. While brief, it accurately sums up my time as the Social Media, Communications, and Special Events Intern at the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club. And it definitely kicked butt.
While perusing internship opportunities, I came across an opening for this position with the Kickers. Having only played soccer for two years as a kid and being less than a soccer novice, it didn’t exactly jump out at me, but I applied anyway. It was satisfying to receive news that I scored an interview, and even more satisfying actually interviewing with them. Tammy, the interviewer and my MKSC internship lead, was absolutely delightful and showed me what the club is all about. It changed my mindset from “eh, it’s an internship,” to “I need this internship.” That feeling of opening the email offering me the position will forever be welded into my mind.
From day one, I knew I was in for a rewarding experience. The staff was beyond welcoming and the work was exciting. As an advertising major, I gained great insight into the marketing world and the culture of an office setting. Not only did I take away tangible work to show future employers, but also an experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. From assisting Alison with social media to making flyers for events to field marshaling at the tournaments, it was a position full of various tasks with consistent values.
I cannot thank the Kickers enough for giving me the opportunity and I hope to use what I have learned here in my future endeavors in advertising. It may be my last time saying it as a Kicker, but I will continue to live out the MKSC motto:
Follow The Leader.
