Henry Allen - MKSC Intern, Soccer Player, Sports Advocate

by Henry Allen | Jun 07, 2016

My name is Henry Allen and I will be interning with the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club over the summer. I just completed my first year at Elon University in North Carolina, and am currently an International Business and Management major.

I have played sports my entire life and have been a huge fan of soccer since I can remember. I am especially excited to have this internship because it will provide valuable insight into how a sports organization is run, which is something I hope to get involved with as a career.

One of the first sports teams I remember playing on as a kid was my local Milwaukee Kickers team. To have gone from playing and being part of Milwaukee Kickers as a kid to now be working with the organization as an intern is pretty cool for me. I still remember the friendships, the lessons, and the fun I had being on a Milwaukee Kickers team years ago. Through being involved with organized sports from a young age, it laid the foundation for me to continue playing soccer as well as other sports.

While I continued soccer all the way through high school, I also participated in lacrosse and ski racing. Despite the fact that I don't consider soccer to be my best sport, I have developed a real passion for it over the years. I try to find ways to be as involved as I can and participate in the sport. Anywhere from volunteering with Special Olympics soccer, to finding time to play on an intramural team, if I have the chance to do something soccer related, I do it.

Having the opportunity to play team sports taught me invaluable life lessons, great friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime. I think every kid should play a team sports at some point in their lives (soccer if possible) because being part of a team is a unique experience unlike any other. Now as a member of an organization that gives hundreds of kids the chance to experience being on a team, (and gave me that chance) makes this experience even more meaningful to me. Not to forget that the fact that it being soccer is the icing on the cake.

I like to think that I am a pretty curious and adventurous person, so I am very excited to see what this summer holds for me here at Milwaukee Kickers. I am ready to learn and absorb as much as I can, and am ready to help out wherever needed.
