Allison Peters - MKSC Intern, College Student & Youth Sports Coach

by Allison Peters | Mar 01, 2016

My name is Allison Peters and I will be interning with the Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Club (communications, social media and special events focus) the next few months. I am a student at Concordia University – Wisconsin and am scheduled to graduate in December with a degree in Sport and Entertainment Management. I have always been a fan of sports and I am excited to see how this internship will prepare me for a career in the sports industry.

Growing up, I was involved in several sports including soccer. When I reached the high school level, I had to decide between sports and made the decision to hang up my soccer cleats. While part of me missed playing soccer, it did give me the opportunity to focus on improving my other two sports: basketball and softball. Basketball has always been my favorite sport to play. I was a member of a very tight-knit team, and we pushed each other to be better on and off the court. It was that passion for achievement that encouraged me to get involved in coaching.

I began coaching basketball and softball for my high school, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, the summer after I graduated. After four years of coaching in the offseason summer and fall leagues, I started my first season coaching the freshman girls during the school season (in the photo above, I'm pictured on the far right in the back row). I had a fun and talented group of girls that definitely helped make it a rewarding experience.

After three months of hard work and dedication, our team finished with an overall record of 20-1. Throughout the year, I learned how to inspire the girls with that same passion for success that I had when I played. Between coaching, work, and school I keep myself busy, but I also know the importance of and make time for staying active and having fun.

In addition to my busy schedule, I am also an enthusiast for adventure. Last summer, I had my first opportunity to go skydiving (with a trained instructor as shown in the photo below) and it was by far the most exhilarating thing I’ve ever done. Later that summer, I also went whitewater rafting and cliff jumping in Northern Wisconsin. My next opportunity for adventure is the road trip I am taking with my dad during Spring Break to Texas and Arizona. I am looking forward to seeing the sights and trying whatever adventurous opportunities come up along the way.

I consider life itself an adventure and have always strived to commit to an active lifestyle. Whether playing and coaching sports or jumping out of an airplane at 14,000 feet, I know that there will always be another exciting challenge out there for me to conquer!
