Due to current field conditions, we have to modify the 2011 Coca-Cola Youth Classic Tournament.
Our best scenario is to move the U11 groups to play their games on our indoor fields, eliminate the U13 and U14 divisions and change all other bracket schedules so that the teams can play on the best fields currently available.
Unfortunately, between Sunday, September 25th and Thursday, September 29th we received approximately 7 inches of rain. The water did not have a place to go or the time to evaporate with the cold weather and continual rainy conditions. This led to standing water on many of the fields. While we looked at several other options, none seemed feasible. After much discussion with the park’s grounds crew and physical inspection of the fields, we have made the decision to cancel the U13 and U14 portion of the tournament. As already mentioned, the U11 teams will play indoors. The U12 games will be on outdoor grass fields. The U16 and older teams will play on Time Warner Cable Stadium with a shortened game format. We simply could not accommodate the U13 and U14 teams with the available fields.
The decision to cancel the U13 and U14 games was based on several factors. We have 36 teams in those brackets and had close to 72 games scheduled for Saturday. If we had played, the fields would have been unplayable by mid morning. It then becomes an issue of safety for the players. While we know that many parks will remain open, please understand that they do not have the volume of games scheduled as we. One game played on a wet field results in very little damage; 10 or 12 games played on a wet field leads to adverse and dangerous field conditions.
For those teams not playing, we will make a full refund.
I am including a copy of our refund policy for your review. This policy is in the tournament rules. They are posted on our website and included in the tournament book.
