“If they can experience ten percent of what I’ve experienced, hopefully they will play for the rest of their lives.”
– Michael King

Michael King’s first soccer memory, what he calls “the moment,” is a recollection that many of the players he coaches would be jealous of. Michael’s love for the game is derived from a day with his father spent at Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea face Manchester City in the late-sixties. From this experience came a life of playing, coaching, and not coincidentally supporting both of The Blues.

Michael has been a full-time coach with the Milwaukee Kickers for six years, but that is only a small portion of his expansive soccer career. He was raised a short distance from the famous west end of London and has been playing soccer for as long as he can remember. He played both club and representative soccer in England, and when he was fourteen, spent time in the Chelsea youth system. Michael played his college soccer for Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey and was a three-time All-American before being drafted by Cleveland in the MISL. After playing in Cleveland, Dallas, and Baltimore, Michael spent the final fifteen years of his career with the Milwaukee Wave, accumulating 766 goals and four championships.

What excites Michael most about the Milwaukee Kickers is the growth of the MKSC Academy program and the development of Milwaukee Kickers’ home, Uihlein Soccer Park. He is also excited to take his U14 and U15 teams to England on March 27. While there, the teams will train at three topflight facilities: Fulham, Tottenham, and Chelsea. They will also play four games, sightsee, and attend at least one Premier League match before returning on April 5. He hopes to make the trip, sponsored by Adidas, an annual event. “For the kids that aren’t sure whether they like soccer or not, this will be a life-changing experience,” said King.

Michael believes that his experience playing at a high level for such a long time makes him unique as a Kickers coach. With the soccer culture of America growing and accelerating, it is more important than ever for young players looking to take their game to the next level to have an experienced instructor to prepare and improve them. Coach King can do that.
